We are counting our blessings heading into the long weekend! What an amazing 3 days with our new classes - today being the first we were all together! Students wasted no time jumping into curriculum. It’s going to be a great year! Enjoy the long weekend! We can’t wait to see you on Tuesday! ♥️
On September 29th, St. Francis of Assisi will commemorate the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (please note, school is closed on September 30th in lieu). The annual Orange Shirt Day opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. A discussion all Canadians can tune into and create bridges with each other for reconciliation. A day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter, and so do those that have been affected. Every Child Matters, even if they are an adult, from now on. St. Francis of Assisi has connected with Moonstone Creations to supply orange shirts, a Cree-owned company that provides a portion of the proceeds the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba! You can now purchase a shirt through School Cash Online until September 9th. Please identify a shirt size when purchasing for your child. Thank you for showing your support!
Save the date! Lifetouch will be at St. Francis of Assisi on Wednesday, September 7th to take both class and individual student photos!

We have one final introduction... Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Krysty Olson who will be joining the Grade 6 team at St. Francis of Assisi! 🍎 Krysty grew up in Sherwood Park before moving to Red Deer where she was living until most recently. She is married with two children who she enjoys coaching and cheering on in their various sports. Prior to joining St. Francis, Krysty taught grades 6 through 12 in both Edmonton and Red Deer Catholic. She is excited about being in a new town, getting to know her students, and working alongside staff! In her spare time you will find her being active - biking, golf, hockey, yoga.
Our St. Francis of Assisi family is growing! Please join us in welcoming Mr. Alleluia (what a name!) who will be joining our growing grade 6 team! 🍎 Lionel was a teacher-chaplain for the Toronto Catholic District School Board for 13 years at a school in Rexdale where he grew up. There he taught English, Cooperative Education, and Religion while assuming the duties of the school chaplain. FUN FACT: He has taught 3 different NBA stars, one who is a currently the starter for the Memphis Grizzlies (Dillon Brooks). He loves playing and watching basketball, playing outside with his children (9, 5, 2), and biking. He values being connected the his local parish and helping out within the Church in any way he can. "I am excited for this new change to grade 6...I have been overwhelmed with the kindness and care that all staff members have shown me, thus far, so I'm really looking forward to working with all of them this upcoming school year." We look forward to having you on staff!
Please join us in welcoming Miss. Brittney Kraft who will be joining the staff at St. Francis of Assisi this fall, teaching in grade 4! 🍎 She shares: "My name is Brittney Kraft and I was born in Calgary, Alberta. I come from the Centre for Learning, and have taught grades 5 and 6, as well as some option courses for grades 7-9. As part of my own educational journey, I attended St. Francis High School in Calgary and St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. I am very excited to be joining a new St. Francis school community!! For fun, I spend lots of time with my shepadoodle puppy named Bo. Bo is very active and we enjoy biking, hiking, and boating together. I look forward to meeting everyone soon and beginning a new year that I am sure will be full of many blessings."
Please join us in welcoming Miss. Teresa Riccio who will be joining St. Francis of Assisi this fall in grade 3! 🍎 She shares: "I was blessed to start my teaching career in the fall of 2020 in Brooks, AB at Holy Family Academy. For the past two years I have been teaching Grade 3 and am excited to continue in this grade at St. Francis. I moved to South Calgary in the beginning of August and have so enjoyed getting to see the mountains on my drive to school! I am very excited to join St. Francis’ staff and community, get to know the area and serve as a Faith Lead. I love heading to the mountains for camping, hiking or exploring the towns of Canmore and Banff. I am also an avid reader, baker, lover of anything artsy and enjoy playing the piano and the guitar. I am very excited to start this school year and get to know all of you!"
We are so excited to meet our students beginning in t-7 sleeps (but who is counting). A reminder: Staggered entry begins for students with last names ending in L to Z on August 31. Save the Date!
