Which inspired which? Student inspired teacher? Teacher inspired student? Addison’s writing sparked something in Mrs. A and she went on to write her own piece, mimicking the structure and style of the original. See the two different pieces! How do they compare? #SFALearning
Addison, a grade 8 student, came by to share her poem with Mrs. A this morning - the message was too good not to share ♥️
Congratulations to Mrs. Bruketa who is St. Francis of Assisi's Christian Witness Award Winner for the 2022-2023 school year! Roxanne is a faith filled servant leader who gives of her time, her energy and her love in all her interactions. She possesses an incredible kindness that defines what it means to be a witness to Christ. She is an active member in her parish as well as a committed volunteer through community and school events. Roxanne is a faith leader who strives to model her faith life through her relationships with students and her colleagues. She always recognizes the good in everyone by meeting people where they are at in their faith journey. Roxanne is kind, empathic and incredibly loving. Her warm smile and generous heart make her an ideal role model for her students and colleagues. Please join us in congratulating her!

There was a lot of lifting other up today as part of our #PinkShirtDay! Thanks to all students who wore their pink to show their support and who spread joy today by participating in acts of kindness.
Pancakes on a Friday? Yes please! A wonderful morning of enjoying breakfast together to celebrate Shrove Tuesday since we won’t be together next week.
St. Francis of Assisi will be closed next week as Monday, Feb. 20 is Family Day followed by Christ The Redeemer's (CTR) annual Faith Days event. Faith Days provides a way for CTR teachers to gather and grow in their faith as a school community. 🙏 Following Faith Days, teachers will be attending the annual Palliser District Teachers' Convention held in downtown Calgary for two days. We hope you have a safe and happy week ahead. Classes will resume Monday, February 27th.
Students are rocking their pink for #PinkShirtDay
Thank you to Parent Council and parent volunteers to orchestrating pancake breakfast for the whole school today! With students being off next week, we wanted to celebrate Shrove Tuesday as we prepare for a season of fasting during Lent.
Our Jump Rope for Heart winners from yesterday’s event! ♥️ Heart and Stroke Foundation
Today we recognize PINK SHIRT DAY 💟 Over 75% of people say they’ve been bullied. Over 90% of bullying incidents have peer witnesses. But when those peers intervene, most incidents are over within 10 seconds. Bullying could be happening to someone you know and care about – join us in taking a stand against bullying, and letting your peers know that it is not okay. Show kindness, empathy, and compassion, and speak out!
Bullying isn’t just a part of growing up – it’s overwhelming, hurtful, and can make people feel alone. It can affect learning, friendships, and most importantly, physical and emotional health. If you are a victim of bullying, reach out for help. Talk to a parent, teacher, or friend. Do you have a friend who is being bullied? Let them know they’re not alone, and speak out. Most bullying incidents stop within 10 seconds if a bystander intervenes. Friendly reminder that tomorrow is PINK SHIRT DAY! Show your support and sport your best pink. Let's lift each other up! 💟 #S#sfacares
Grade 7 and 8 students attended Mass at St. James Parish this morning. Grateful for the opportunities to celebrate our faith!
To say that we are proud would be an understatement ❤ Meet Tanner & Silas, two young boys from Grade 5, who kickstarted an initiative here at our school – combing through trash cans for bottles and recyclables during their recesses and lunch break (and outside of school). They store these, pick up after school hours, and bring them to the depot each week. They have been working to raise money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital and they’ve surpassed their first goal of $500.00. As a school community, they’re hoping to raise awareness on maintaining a more green-forward lunch! We thank them for kick-starting our new recycling initiative and the installation of new recycling bins at St. Francis to more efficiently manage waste. Today they had the opportunity to present their cheque to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation who were so appreciative of the donation! Thank you to the Western Wheel for coming to interview them! Way to go boys!
Recognizing that Shrove Tuesday falls during the week students are off, parent volunteers have generously offered to serve up a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Breakfast TOMORROW on Friday, February 17th. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent in the Roman Catholic Church. Dating back to 1000 AD, over the years Shrove Tuesday not only became a day for Confession, but a time for Catholics to feast on eggs, sugar and dairy which are traditionally restricted during the Lenten fast. #SFAFaith
It's not too late to donate to our school's efforts to raise funds for the Heart & Stroke Foundation through Jump Rope for Heart! Visit our fundraising page to donate!
