Thank you to Kyle and Phoenix Young Pine for leading a full day of workshops with our students and staff at St. Francis as we commemorate National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

Tomorrow, St. Francis of Assisi will commemorate the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (please note, school is closed on September 30th in lieu). The annual Orange Shirt Day opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. A discussion all Canadians can tune into and create bridges with each other for reconciliation. A day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter, and so do those that have been affected. Every Child Matters, even if they are an adult, from now on.

Our junior high cross country team also had an amazing meet yesterday! 9 out of 15 of our runners placed top 10 in fields of over 50 runners. Special shout out to Milo Evans 1st, Ocean Olynyk 3rd, Islyn Olynyk 3rd, and Jaelyn Wood 4th. Congratulations to all of our runners! Go storm!

This Friday we recognize and honour National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (school will be closed). Throughout the week, students and staff will engage in a variety of activities to help us commemorate and draw attention to this living history. Together, these hands offer a collection of our prayers, intentions and gratitude. We would invite you to take a moment to read and reflect on what our students have shared.

Our teachers were great sports and definitely added some extra fun while raising money for the @terryfoxfoundation It’s a good thing it was a half day and they didn’t have too long to marinate before having a shower! We are looking for volunteers to support with the delivery of our Hot Lunch Program to individual classrooms on Tuesday and Thursdays each week. Volunteers can sign up for as many or as few as their schedule allows (we are so grateful for whatever time you have to spare)! There will be an orientation session on Tuesday, September 20th in the morning after school Mass. Further details to be communicated via email. Elementary students showed off their new agendas this afternoon! Teaching organization, structure and predictability is one of the strategies we are focusing on at St. Francis of Assisi as part of the #CTRHealthySchools initiative!
